FAWN ORCHARD
Fawn Orchard was my final project at Parsons School of Design. Working on it for a whole semester tied together every medium I had explored before it, and it’s where my love for woodworking took root.
At the same time, the 3D-printed pots and the power carving reminded me how much I love technology. That mix of hand and machine is what motivated me to apply to the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship, where I completed a nine-month intensive under master woodworker Philip Morley.
Process
A semester of trying everything. I turned forms on the lathe, hand-stitched leather into pods, seeds and braided cords, and power carved walnut until it read like terrain. I glued up stacks of strips and offcuts with odd adhesives, set leather and glass into the carved surfaces, and printed, sanded and painted the vessels by hand. Most of these experiments never made it into the final piece, but every one of them shaped it.
